Pens of the Earth

Positive environmental stories and poems
Pens of the Earth

Publications 2022

Thank you to everyone who submitted work to Pens of the Earth. It’s been a real pleasure to read the entries.

We will be publishing stories and poems from 2nd November to 17th December.

Expect the unexpected.  Expect encounters with whales, seahorses, dolphins and seals.  Expect urban transformations and new perspectives on what defines home.  Most importantly, expect glimpses of achievable futures that could bring renewed health and hope to our ecology.

We will be bringing you stories and poems every week, so keep watching! And do please share and engage – we want to hear from you.

Thanks to our skilled team of editors for their dedication and to our wonderful contributors for providing us with such imaginative and diverse entries.

2022 Submissions Closed

Submissions are now closed. Thank you to everyone who sent us work – we will be back in contact soon!

Give it a Go!

We have two new articles under the About menu – Writing for Non-Writers and Editing for Non-Editors. If you like the idea of sending something in to us but you’re ‘not really a writer’, these should give you the confidence and skills to give it a try!

Press Release

We now have a Press Release, giving newcomers and interested parties an idea what we do and how we do it!

New Web Host

Our website is now hosted by Eco Web Hosting, who use green energy for their web servers and plant a tree every month for us!

Save Our Seas Competition

To celebrate our collaboration with Kings Youth Theatre and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust we are holding a competition to win two tickets for this wonderful showcase on Fri 3rd June!

To enter, do one or more of the following:

  1. Like our page on Facebook and share this post.
  2. Follow our account on Twitter (@EarthPens) and retweet this post.
  3. Add a comment on the Facebook/Twitter post with your inspirational ideas about ways to ‘Save our Seas’. Please make sure you comment on the original post, not a shared copy!

Each of these counts as one entry – the more you do, the more chance you have of winning!

Also, don’t forget to like the Kings Theatre Konnect Facebook page.

If you’re not on Facebook or Twitter you can also enter by emailing us your ‘Save our Seas’ ideas.

All suitable ‘Save our Seas’ ideas will be published on our inspiration pages to help provide creative stimulus for this year’s submission theme, and may also be featured on Facebook and Twitter. We will credit you!

Terms and Conditions:

  • Deadline: Midnight, Wednesday 18th May 2022.
  • One prize, to be chosen at random from all entries received.
  • Winner announced by 5pm on Thursday, 19th May.
  • Tickets to be collected on Fri 3rd June from the King’s Theatre box office.

It’s a Wrap!

So, that’s it for another year!

Thanks to everyone who contributed a story, poem or some environmental content. Thanks also to our editors, our comms team, and everyone who helped behind the scenes.

And finally, thanks to everyone who read work on the Pens of the Earth website. If you haven’t caught up with everything yet, you can read all eighteen of the pieces we published here.
