Positive environmental stories and poems
Pens of the Earth

Launch Night

The project was officially launched on 25 July 2019 at the Portsmouth Writers’ Hub at Unite Students, Chaucer House, Portsmouth. It turned out, appropriately, to be the hottest day ever recorded in Britain.

The evening was co-hosted by Alison Habens and Helen Salsbury, with talks from local environmentalists, discussion groups for generating ideas, and news of forthcoming events and opportunities.

The talks from our environmental experts were:

  1. Plastic Free Portsmouth by Clare Seek. Exploring what’s happening in Portsmouth to protect our oceans.
  2. Portsmouth 2030 – a City Transformed by Nick Sebley. Exploring ways in which environmental actions could reshape Portsmouth’s future.
  3. Streets for People by Helen Salsbury, Megan Howson and Carla Broom. Exploring how reclaiming streets for people can have an impact on community, family, health, safety and our environment.
