With £100 recently raised by the Pens friends litter pick, we’ve hit our target of £2,000 to publish our book. That means we’re now directly raising money for the Solent Seagrass Restoration Project!
The litter pick is ongoing, having recently reached over 3,000 pieces of litter (new target: 4,000). It will continue until our launch on October 21st.
It’s a fabulous feeling to announce that all proceeds from our book launch – including ticket sales, book sales, litter picking and litter art sales – will go to supporting the wonderful and essential work of restoring seagrasses.
Our book will become available to pre-order from Pigeon Books from early summer onwards (for collection or delivery).
Since our launch in July 2019 we have published 51 stories (fiction & non-fiction) and 40 poems on our website, as well as sharing a range of inspirational environmental material, workshops and talks. Our writers have performed at the Portsmouth Climate Festival, HMS Warrior and The Spring Arts Centre, and have received good reviews in the Portsmouth News and elsewhere.
Pens of the Earth have come together to fight climate change using their skills as writers. We work in collaboration with local & international environmental organisations.

The aim of the publication is to:
- Raise awareness and empower people to act on behalf of the environment (our fundamental ethos).
- Donate all profits from book sales to the Solent Seagrass Restoration Project.
We like the idea that our words will not just spread hope, but also help to plant seeds for the future.
You can still get involved by becoming a litter-picking Pens Friend. Christina Moran has set up a sponsored litter pick to raise money for the publication of our book. She’s inviting ‘Pens Friends’ to become involved by:
- Joining her and helping to contribute to the total, doing your own collecting whenever and wherever you choose – either individually or by joining an organised litter pick (search on ‘beach clean near me’ or check out Keep Britain Tidy). Contact Christina directly if you want to become a Pen’s littering-picking friend.
- Alternatively you can simply sponsor Christina and friends on her JustGiving page.
